Community Service 2018/ Servicio Comunitario 2018

The ABC is proud to kick off its holidays in the true spirit of the Christmas season: giving back. Some of our students had the chance to go to the Teletón this Saturday and hand over our donation. This was done thanks to the hard work of our teachers and students involved with the cause, who helped raise money by selling t-shirts and various promotional items.

We also had 3 different jeans days so that all of our community could show their support by wearing their Teletón t-shirt. It was wonderful to see so many children and staff wearing them.

The final amount raised was $7095.87 and we are excited to see how that helps provide therapy, wheelchairs and more to so many Salvadorians in need.

In addition, we received hundreds of shoeboxes to give to kids in rural communities around El Salvador. It is rewarding to know that such a simple gesture will brighten a child's Christmas season. We are also very grateful for all the toy donations we received in Lower Primary. These will also go to children who would otherwise not receive gifts during this time of year. On Tuesday, a group of teachers will visit Hospital San Rafael to hand out toys to sick children.

We cannot mention helping our community without including our Primary Santa's Festival. All funds raised from games, pictures with Santa Claus and food will be used to pay tuition fees for more than a dozen children related to our maintenance and security staff. It was great to see our community come together and contribute to help those members of our school who put their best foot forward in helping us every day. We will know the final total raised in January, but we know it will be a great help to our Fairs to Educate committee.

We are sure our Bulldogs will spend the rest of their vacation days doing what we do best, thinking globally and acting locally!

La ABC está muy orgullosa de dar inicio a sus vacaciones sintiendo el verdadero espíritu de la época navideña: ayudando a otros. Algunos de nuestros alumnos tuvieron la oportunidad de ir a la Teletón este sábado para entregar el donativo en nombre de todo el colegio. Toda lo recaudado fue gracias al arduo trabajo del personal y alumnos que se involucraron con esta causa, quienes ayudaron vendiendo camisetas y otros artículos promocionales.

También tuvimos 3 Jeans Days para que toda nuestra comunidad pudiera manifestar su apoyo a la Teletón luciendo su camiseta. Fue muy satisfactorio ver a tanto alumno y maestro con su camiseta.

El monto donado fue de $7095.87, y nos llena de emoción pensar en cómo esa cifra se convertirá en terapias, sillas de ruedas y otros servicios para muchos salvadoreños que lo necesitan. 
Asimismo, recibimos cientos de cajas de zapatos para dar a niños en diferentes zonas rurales del país. Nos llena de felicidad saber que un gesto tan sencillo puede resultar en alegrar la época navideña de un niño que lo necesita. También estamos muy agradecidos con todas las donaciones de juguetes que recibimos en Lower Primary. Estos también irán a niños que probablemente no recibirán otros regalos en está época del año. El martes por la mañana, un grupo de profesoras repartirá estos regalos en el Hospital San Rafael.

No podemos hablar de ayudar a nuestra comunidad sin incluir el Santa's Festival de Primaria. Todos los fondos recaudados de los juegos, fotos con Santa y comida se utilizarán para pagar las matrículas y colegiaturas de decenas de hijos de nuestro personal de mantenimiento y seguridad. Fue increíble ver cómo se unió nuestra comunidad para ayudar aquellos que todos los días dan su mejor esfuerzo para mantener nuestro colegio limpio, ordenado y seguro. Sabremos el monto exacto que se recaudó hasta en enero, pero sabemos que será de gran ayuda para el Comité de Becas.

Estamos seguros que nuestros Bulldogs pasarán el resto de sus vacaciones haciendo lo que mejor saben hacer: ¡pensando globalmente y actuando localmente!

PAES Results/ Resultados PAES

It seems that the first part of our school year has flown by and once again, it was time for our Grade 12 class to undergo their PAES examination.

Starting in Grade 11, our students take on an extra subject called HNC (Historia Nacional y Cívica) in order to obtain the best preparation possible for the PAES.

When the date of the test came around, Grade 12 was all set to tackle this challenge with ease. We are proud to report that the Class of 2019 did not disappoint. 100% scored within the "Nivel Superior" category, which is the highest possible ranking for the grade obtained by the student. Our overall average of 8.35 was also our best ever score. 

However, we would like to give a special congratulations to our top 3 PAES scores, which were achieved by Sebastián Avilés, David Fuentes and Sebastián Carranza. Their effort lead to great success and we could not be more proud of them for representing the ABC so well. We are sure their hard work and resilience will also shine through when they get their IB results!

Parece que la primera parte de nuestro año escolar ha pasado volando y como si nada, era la hora para que nuestro 12o grado tomara la prueba PAES.

Desde 11o grado, nuestros alumnos empiezan a llevar la materia de Historia Nacional y Cívica, con el fin de obtener la mejor preparación posible para la PAES.

El día de la prueba, 12o grado estaba listo para enfrentar este reto con facilidad. Estamos orgullosos de reportar que la Clase del 2019 no nos decepcionó. el 100% obtuvieron notas dentro de la más alta categoría, llamada "Nivel Superior".

Sin embargo, deseamos hacer una mención especial a los 3 alumnos más destacados en la PAES de esta promoción, Sebastián Avilés, David Fuentes y Sebastián Carranza. Su esfuerzo los llevo a un enorme éxito y no pudiéramos estar más orgullosos de ellos por representar tan bien a la ABC. ¡Estamos seguros que su trabajo duro y resiliencia también se harán notar cuando reciban sus resultados del IB!

Handball U12 Boys/ Varones Balonmano U12

It has been a week full of victories for the ABC in Team Sports, as our U12 Handball Boys also represented our school in an incredible way.

This team became their category's UNDEFEATED Juegos Estudiantiles champions, playing two rounds against different national schools, including two teams fro Colegio Don Bosco.

Handball is one of the newest sports available at the ABC, which makes it even more rewarding to see such amazing results from our students, who show great potential in this sport.

Thank you to all the parents and coaches who have supported our team during every game and practise, you are also a vital part of our success.

Ha sido una semana repleta de victorias de Team Sports para la ABC, ya que nuestro equipo U12 de balonmano ha representado de gran manera a nuestro colegio.

Este equipo se convirtió en el campeón INVICTO del torneo de los Juegos Estudiantiles, jugando dos rondas contra diferentes colegios nacionales, incluyendo dos equipos del Colegio Don Bosco.

El balonmano es uno de los deportes mas nuevos que ofrece nuestro colegio, lo que hace esta victoria aún más especial, ya que nuestros alumnos han demostrado resultados excelentes junto a un gran potencial para esta disciplina.

Gracias a todos los entrenadores y padres de familia que han apoyado a nuestro equipo durante cada partido y entreno, ustedes también son parte clave de nuestro éxito.

Cadet Boys Basketball Champions/ Equipo Cadete Campeones de Baloncesto

We would like to congratule our Cadet Basketball boys for being the UNDEFEATED champions of La Libertad for the Juegos Estudiantiles.

We are proud of their achievement, as they faced some tough competition, especially three rival schools known for their great basketball teams, Colegio Santa Cecilia, Colegio Champagnat and Colegio Lamatepec.

Although the road to this victory is not easy, we would like to praise our Bulldogs for their commitment, hard work and resilience. They are a great example for the rest of our students!

Deseamos felicitar a nuestro equipo de varones Cadete de baloncesto por haberse convertido en los campeones INVICTOS de La Libertad de los Juegos Estudiantiles.

Estamos muy orgullosos de su logro, ya que tuvieron rivales muy fuertes, sobre todo de colegios conocidos por sus equipos de baloncesto, como el Colegio Santa Cecilia, el Colegio Champagnat y el Colegio Lamatepec.

Aunque el trayecto hacia la victoria no es sencillo, queremos elogiar a nuestros Bulldogs por su compromiso, trabajo duro y resiliencia. ¡Son un excelente ejemplo para el resto de nuestros alumnos!

U12 Basketball National Runner Ups/ Basketball U12 Subcampeones Nacionales

Our community has lots of reasons to feel proud of the ABC, but this week, our U12 boys' basketball team brought us together in celebration with a 2nd place in a national Juegos Estudiantiles tournament.

The games took place in the form of a "lightning tournament", and the ABC stood among the group of 11 winners at a department level.

After a heated semi final, our Bulldogs achieved a place in the coveted final spot. Our ABC students gave it their all during every match, bringing out the best in themselves and their teammates. Our team excelled at blocking their opponents, and our strategy was filled with elaborate plays that eventually led us to second place. This would have not been achieved thanks to the great support from parents and coaches.

Team Sports are an amazing opportunity for our students to develop confidence and discipline and our U12 basketball boys exemplify those traits and are a great example for younger students who look up to them.

Nuestra comunidad tiene muchas razones para sentirse orgullosa de nuestro colegio, pero esta semana, los niños del equipo de basketball U12, nos unieron en celebración al ganar 2o lugar el el torneo departamental de los Juegos Estudiantiles.

Los partidos se llevaron a cabo en modalidad "relámpago", y la ABC estuvo entre los 11 mejores equipos a nivel departamental.

Después de una intensa semifinal, nuestros Bulldogs obtuvieron su ansiado puesto en la final. Nuestros alumnos se entregaron en cada partido, dando lo mejor de si mismos y sacando lo mejor de sus compañeros. Tuvimos una marcación fuerte y hubo jugadas elaboradas que nos permitieron clasificar y así llegar a la final, obteniendo el segundo lugar.Este logro no se pudo haber obtenido sin el gran apoyo de los entrenadores y padres de familia.

El programa de Team Sports es una excelente oportunidad para que nuestros alumnos desarrollen confianza en si mismos y disciplina y nuestros alumnos de la U12 ejemplifican esas cualidades y son un gran ejemplo para aquellos estudiantes menores que los admiran.

Peace One Day

"In 1999 the filmmaker Jeremy Gilley started campaigning for one single day when all countries would agree not to wage war: a worldwide ceasefire and day of non-violence. He worked to help establish Peace One Day. In 2001 the United Nations  General Assembly unanimously adopted a resolution formally establishing the UN International Day of Peace an annual Peace Day of global ceasefire and non-violence on 21 September."

The ABC has celebrated Peace One day for over a decade now, and aims to lead by example, by thinking globally and acting locally. We want peace in the world, our country and in our community

This year, our Student Council decided to make Peace One Day even more meaningful by looking to team up with other students who were interested in celebrating a day that promoted being respectful, open minded, considerate and reflective, values that are very important to us at the ABC. We were delighted that the Liceo Francés joined our our celebration attended our Peace One Day Assembly, and talked to our students about the importance of collaborating to achieve peace. Both schools sold shirts to wear on this day, and the ABC raised close to $400 from the sales.

Another element that helped tie this day together was the introduction of our partnership with Save the Children. Representatives from this organization came along, and explained how they are working to help with the education of migrant and refugee children. With the funds raised from our traditional Colour Run, Save the Children will be able to help many children fulfill their right to an education.

We are very proud of the way all of our students joined in to promote Peace One Day, and we hope that in the upcoming years, we continue to collaborate with organizations that share our values and help our students act like true ROCs.

La ABC ha celebrado Peace One day por más de una década, y su objetivo es predicar con el ejemplo, pensando globalmente y actuando localmente.
Este año, nuestro Consejo Estudiantil decidió hacer que Peace One Day fuera aún más significativo al buscar unir fuerzas con otros estudiantes que estaban interesados ​​en celebrar un día que promoviera ser respetuoso, de mente abierta, considerado y reflexivo, valores que son muy importantes para nosotros en el colegio.
El Liceo Francés se convirtió en parte de nuestra celebración y el 21 de septiembre se unieron a nuestra Asamblea de Peace One Day y hablaron con nuestros estudiantes sobre la importancia de colaborar para lograr la paz. Congratulations to the Class of 2020 for their excellent IGCSE results!

The IGCSE is a programme that runs through Grades 9 and 10, which strongly encourages students to develop a global outlook and promotes international mindedness through its approaches to learning & teaching. However, it also instills in them cultural awareness, and helps them look at global issues through the local lens, to empower them to engage with their communities. IGCSE learners are global citizens in every way.

The Class of 2020 has shown that their effort led to their success, and after excellent results on their IGCSEs, they have now settled into their IB Diploma programme, confident that they are completely prepared for its rigorous, yet fulfilling curriculum.

We would especially like to congratulate Marcelo Moreno, Ariana Rodríguez, Rebeca Cruz, Julia Espinal, Airi Shibata and Carlos Vásquez for obtaining the top IGCSE grades in their year group. 
Marcelo is the Millennium Scholar for the Class of 2020.

Congratulations to all the students for their effort and our teachers for their continued support.

Changes over the Summer Holiday/ Cambios durante la vacación de verano

The summer holiday has been an extremely busy time here at the ABC. We had some major renovations planned, which included the following:
La ABC vio muchísimo movimiento durante la vacación de verano, ya que estaban planificadas una remodelaciones bastante grandes, incluyendo las siguientes:

Administration area: A complete rebuild of the offices was carried out, including renovations in the car park area, which is now more modern, safer and cooler.
The reception and cashier area also has improved safety measures, where visitors must sign in to be granted access.
Área administrativa: Se llevó a cabo una completa reconstrucción de las oficinas, incluyendo remodelaciones del parqueo, el cual está más seguro, moderno y fresco.
El área de recepción y caja también han mejorado en cuanto a sus medidas de seguridad, donde los visitantes  deben registarse para poder ingresar a las instalaciones.

Mathematics and Science Classrooms: Our Mathematics and Science wing has also undergone great change, with classroom renovations that include new fittings and top of the line scientific equipment.

The bathrooms in this area are also brand new, with enough space for both students and staff.

- Aulas de Matemáticas y Ciencias: Nuestra ala de Matemáticas y Ciencias también han cambiado mucho, con remodelaciones que incluyen muebles nuevo y equipo científico de vanguardia.

Los baños de esta zona también son nuevos, con espacios tanto para staff como para alumnos.

We are very excited to start using these new facilities on Monday, as we know they will enhance our students' learning greatly and will help our new school year start in style..

Estamos muy ansiosos por empezar a hacer uso de estas nuevas áreas el lunes, ya que sabemos que enriquecerán de gran manera el aprendizaje de nuestros alumnos, y nos ayudarán a iniciar el año escolar con pie derecho.

When Guatemala's Volcán de Fuego erupted earlier this week, hundreds of people were affected by the lava and ash that swept their homes, with many losing all of their possessions.

Our ABC Bulldogs did not hesitate to jump into action when they came to school on Monday morning and Grade 11 took charge and rallied the whole school to help out our Guatemalan brothers and sisters.

During this week, students from the class of 2019 have gone round to every grade, collecting  donations which include, tinned food, blankets, personal hygiene items, diapers and more.
We are very happy to report that the donations have been plentiful and have taken over most of the Secondary office!

We would like to thank our community for coming together during this time, we have demonstrated the very essence of what thinking globally and acting locally means.






Cuando el Volcán de Fuego hizo erupción en Guatemala a principios de esta semana, decenas de personas se vieron afectadas por la ceniza y lava que arrasó con sus hogares y pertenencias.

Nuestros Bulldogs no dudaron en hacer algo al respecto cuando vinieron al colegio el lunes por la mañana y 11o grado se hizo cargo y convocó a todo el colegio para ayudar a nuestros hermanos guatemaltecos.

Durante la semana, los alumnos de 11o grado han ido de clase en clase recolectando las donaciones que incluyen: comida enlatada, cobijas, artículos de higiene personal y pañales, entre otros. Estamos muy satisfechos de reportar que las donaciones han sido numerosas ¡y han tomado casi todo el espacio de la oficina de Secundaria!

Deseamos agradecerle a nuestra comunidad por unirse durante esta semana, hemos demostrado el verdadero significado de pensar globalmente y actuar localmente.

We Will Rock You

 If you enjoy Queen's music, with hits such as Bohemian Rhapsody and Under Pressure, then you're in luck: The ABC's newest musical production, We Will Rock You, fits the bill perfectly.

With Queen's music as the soundtrack, We Will Rock You is a story set in a world where everyone is forced to conform. They must all listen to the same music, go to the same school and work for the same company.

However, protagonists Galileo and Scaramouche, find a way to break free from society's constraints and live in the world of music they always dreamed of.

The musical premiered on Thursday April 12th, and received rave reviews. There is also one more show today at 6:00 pm. If you did not have a chance to go yesterday, then do not miss out and come along tonight!

Many thanks to our Performing Arts Department for all their hard work to ensure the play was a success. We would also like to congratulate all the actors and backstage crew, you outdo yourselves every year!

Si les gusta la música de Queen, con éxitos como Bohemian Rhapsody y Under Pressure, es su día de suerte: la más reciente obra musical de la ABC, We Will Rock You, es justo lo indicado.

Con los éxitos de Queen como pista musical, We Will Rock You es una historia que se lleva a cabo en un mundo en el cual no se fomenta la individualidad. Todos deben escuchar la misma música, ir a la misma escuela y trabajar para la misma empresa.

Sin embargo, los protagonistas, Galileo y Scaramouche, descubren la manera de romper las cadenas que les impone la sociedad y logran vivir en el mundo lleno de música que siempre soñaron.

El show dio inicio el jueves 12 de abril, y agradó a todos los presentes. Queda todavía una función este viernes a las 6:00 pm. Si no tuvieron la oportunidad de asistir ayer, ¡no se lo pierdan y vengan ahora!

IB Art Exhibition/ Exposición de Arte IB

Our annual IB Art exhibition officially opened this past Tuesday, with our Grade 12 Art students, along with their friends and family participating in a reception that celebrated their talent and success during their IB programme.

The different exhibits are a product of their hard work for the past two years. From photographs, to sculptures, to oil paintings, our artists have used a variety of mediums to express their feelings about current social issues.

On Wednesday, the exhibition opened to the general public and we are very happy that so many members of our community have come to take a look at all the artwork.
We are also extremely proud that our students have used their IB Art portfolios to apply to various international schools, and have been accepted into prestigious institutions such as the Savannah College of Art and Design.

We would like to congratulate these students, along with their teachers for such a fantastic display of talent. We are sure that they will go on to producing a lot more wonderful work in their futures.







Nuestra Exposición anual de Arte de IB se inauguró oficialmente este martes, junto a nuestros alumnos de 12o Grado y sus familias y amistades, quienes participaron en un coctel para celebrar su talento y éxito dentro del programa del IB.

Las diferentes obras son producto de su arduo trabajo durante los últimos dos años. Entre fotografías, esculturas y pinturas en óleo, por mencionar algunas, nuestros artistas han utilizado una variedad diversa de medios para expresar sus sentimientos relacionados a temas sociales actuales.

El miércoles, la exposición abrió al público general y estamos muy contentos con todos los miembros de la comunidad que han venido a dar un vistazo a todas las obras.
También nos sentimos muy orgullosos que nuestros alumnos han utilizado sus portafolios de Arte de IB para aplicar a diferentes universidades internacionales, y han sido aceptados a instituciones de prestigio como el Savannah College of Art and Design.

Deseamos felicitar a estos alumnos, junto a sus maestras por esta fantástica exposición. Estamos seguros que seguirán produciendo increíbles obras en su futuro.

MATHCOUNTS CHAMPIONS!/ ¡CAMPEONES DE MATHCOUNTS!

AMAZING PERFORMANCE

In a competition involving 19 schools and 200 students from across Central America and  Mexico (including other schools from El Salvador) our ABC teams took part in the state round of Mathcounts Competition.

This tournament puts all their mathematical skills to the test, in both the team and the individual events and we are proud to announce WE ARE THE CHAMPIONS IN BOTH TEAM A and TEAM B competitions.

We also obtained amazing results on an individual level with five of the top six students being our ABC students and eight of our students finishing in the top 17! Brilliant!!

Esta semana, en una competencia que involucró a más de 200 alumnos de 19 colegios de América Central, México y el Caribe (incluyendo otros colegios de El Salvador) un grupo de alumnos de Secundaria partieron hacia Monterrey, México para participar en la ronda regional de la competencia de Mathcounts.

Este torneo requiere de todas las habilidades matemáticas de nuestros concursantes, tanto en los eventos de equipo como en los individuales, y estamos muy felices de anunciar los fantásticos resultados de nuestro equipo.

Somos los NUEVOS CAMPEONES DEL TORNEO, habiendo obtenido el 1er lugar tanto con el equipo A y el B, y segundo lugar en la categoría de relevos.

También obtuvimos resultados excelentes a nivel individual, con 5 estudiantes de la ABC clasificando entre los 6 primeros lugares:

UP Sports Day

This week saw the Upper Primary students and parents compete for the honour of “Best Sports Tribe” in the Annual ABC Sports & Family Fun Day which was held on Saturday 17th February. With two sessions over the course of the morning, all of the children in Upper Primary had the opportunity to score points by taking part in fun events and relay races for their tribes. There were great performances from a lot of the children, too many to mention individually, with all of the running, catching, as well as the slip & slide events.

With 5 points for a win, 4 for 2nd, 3 for 3rd and 2 for 4th as well as double points for relays, the whole competition came down to the last race of the day. With only 2 points separating 1st Placed Pipiles and 2nd placed Mayas, it was going to go all the way down to the wire. All the Pipiles had to do was beat the Maya Tribe in their final event of the day and the trophy was theirs. The race was magnificent, the lead changed a number of times at the start and then coming into the home straight it was just a sprint to the end. The Inca tribe ran their hearts out and took the victory on the line, with Pipiles taking a very close 2nd Place. Aztecas took 3rd place with the Maya tribe coming in 4th. It was sealed the 2nd Place in the last event meant that they had done enough to secure victory. Pipiles had won the ABC Sports & Family Fun Day 2018.

Congratulations to all that had taken part, it was a fantastic day. Nearly all of the children leaving looked tired and had smiles on their faces which was all that could have been asked of a school event.

Esta semana vimos a estudiantes y padres de familia de Upper Primary competir por el honor de “Best Sports Tribe” (Mejor tribu deportiva) durante el Annual ABC Sports & Family Day (Día deportivo y familiar anual de la ABC), el cual se realizo el sábado 17 de febrero. Hubo dos sesiones en el transcurso de la mañana, y todos los niños en la sección de Upper Primary tuvieron la oportunidad de anotar puntos participando en divertidos eventos y carreras de relevos representando a sus tribus. Hubo desempeños increíbles de muchos niños, demasiados para mencionarlos individualmente, todos corrieron, cacharon además de participar en eventos donde se deslizaron y se resbalaron.

Con 5 puntos para ganar, 4 para el 2do lugar, 3 para el 3ro y 2 para el 4to, además de doble puntos para los relevos, toda la competencia se resumió en la última carrera del dia. Con tan solo dos puntos separando el 1er lugar de los Pipiles y el 2do lugar de los Mayas, las cosas llegaron hasta el último momento. Todo lo que los Pipiles debían hacer era vencer a los Mayas en su evento final del día y el trofeo sería de ellos. La carrera fue magnifica, la delantera fue alternada varias veces al comienzo y luego al llegar a la meta. La tribu Inca corrieron como nunca y se llevaron la victoria, los Pipiles se llevaron un cercano 2do lugar. Los Aztecas se llevaron el 3er lugar y los Maya el 4to. Aseguraron el 2do lugar en el último evento, lo que significó que habían hecho lo suficiente para asegurar la victoria. Los Pipiles habían ganado el ABC Sports & Family Day 2018 (Día deportivo y familiar anual de la ABC).

Felicitaciones a todos los participantes, fue un dia fantástico. Al irse a casa, casi todos los niños se veían cansados y tenían sonrisas dibujadas en sus rostros, que es lo que se puede pedir de un evento escolar.

Foundation Stage "Pop Up Playgrounds"

Over the last few years, it seems like the concept of Child Centered Learning has risen in popularity, and is often misunderstood or misused by educational institutions.

Child Centered Learning is much more than just colourful classrooms and creative activities. It is about truly listening to our children and respecting their ideas. An example of that are the Pop Up Playgrounds we use to foster independence and teamwork.

At the ABC, our Early Years team believe that children have to learn in a world that belongs to them, where they are in charge and have the choice to decide what to create and how they're going to do it. An environment where children are free to become anything they want and where adults are there to offer guidance without pressure.

It is through this approach to learning that we are proud to be El Salvador's #ChildCenteredPioneers.

If you have a child who is currently in Pre-Kinder - Prepa, ask them about this week's Pop Up Playground! Ask them about what they created and what they learned, we are sure you will be amazed by how proud the children are when given the freedom to create independently. 

Durante los últimos años, parece que el concepto de Aprendizaje Centrado en el Niño ha crecido en popularidad, y muchas veces es malentendido o utilizado de manera incorrecta por las instituciones educativas.

El Aprendizaje Centrado en el Niño va más allá de las aulas coloridas y actividades creativas. Se trata de verdaderamente escuchar a nuestros alumnos y respetar sus ideas. Un ejemplo de esto, son los "Pop Up Playgrounds"que usamos para fomentar la independencia y el trabajo en equipo.

En la ABC, nuestro equipo de Early Years cree que los niños deben aprender dentro de un mundo que les pertenezca a ellos, en donde ellos estén a cargo y donde tengan la opción de decidir que van a crear y como lo van a lograr. Un entorno en donde los niños tienen la libertad de convertirse en lo que ellos quieran y en el que los adultos son guías que no ejercen presión.

 Es por medio de este enfoque hacia el aprendizaje que estamos orgullosos de ser los pioneros en el Aprendizaje Centrado en el Niño de El Salvador.

Hospital Bloom Donation/ Donación al Hospital Bloom

The ABC takes its commitment in developing global citizens very seriously. A global ABC student possesses an awareness of the needs of those around them and although they think globally, they act locally to impact their communities in a positive way.

Our Secondary Student Council is a shining example of this mindset. Not only do they represent the student voice throughout the school, they also make sure to lead by example, coming up with ways to help our community.

This time, the Student Council gave Hospital Bloom the funds they collected from the Guy Fawkes Spooky Cellar, which will be used to heal children in the burns unit.

We are very proud of all their hard work and their effort to become responsible outstanding citizens, not only through projects like this one, but also with their smaller, everyday actions.

La ABC toma muy en serio su compromiso con formar ciudadanos globales. Un ciudadano global de la ABC posee conciencia de las necesidades de quienes lo rodean y aunque piensan globalmente, actúan localmente para marcar a su comunidad de manera positiva.

Nuestro Concejo Estudiantil de Secundaria es un brillante ejemplo de esta mentalidad. No solo representan la voz del alumnado, también se aseguran de predicar con el ejemplo, pensando en maneras de ayudar a nuestra comunidad.

Esta vez, el Concejo Estudiantil recaudó fondos por medio del Spooky Cellar en el evento de Guy Fawkes. Estos fondos fueron donados al Hospital Bloom para tratar a niños con quemaduras.

Estamos muy orgullosos de todo su trabajo y su esfuerzo por convertirse en ciudadanos responsables y sobresalientes, no solo a través de proyectos como este, pero también por medio de sus acciones del día a día.

Amazing Mathcounts Results/ Increíbles Resultados de Mathcounts

The ABC teams had an amazing day at the Mathcounts competition on Saturday. It was a festival of mathematics and a pleasure to participate in. Thank you to the EA for hosting the event. Thank you to so many parents, staff and friends who came to support our students.

Having already won the Math relay the previous day our three ABC Mathcounts teams performed brilliantly. The tournament involved over 200 students, 51 teams and 18 schools including most of the bilingual schools here in San Salvador. One of our teams involving Fernando Caballero, Adriana Menjivar, Diego Narvaez and Jonathan Rodenzo finished equal first with the American School of Guatemala and our team of Andres Reis, Luis Nunez, Diego Salguero and Ricardo Vasquez came third. Our team of Marcos Narvaez, Nelson Salinas, Lucas Cornejo and Carlos Arevalo finished twelfth overall (remember out of over 50 teams!). We are so proud of all of them! In the individual competition Fernando came second and Jonathan came fourth and we had four students in the top 10. We also had students participating and trying their very best throughout the two days. Well done team and especial thanks to Mario Canas our head coach and to all the math staff who worked with him.

Los equipos de la ABC tuvieron un día increíble en la competencia de Mathcounts el sábado. Fue un festival de matemáticas y un placer participar. Gracias a la Escuela Americana por organizar el evento. Gracias a tantos padres, personal y amigos que vinieron a apoyar a nuestros estudiantes.

Después de haber ganado el relevo de Matemáticas el día anterior, nuestros tres equipos de ABC Mathcounts se desempeñaron brillantemente. El torneo involucró a más de 200 estudiantes, 51 equipos y 18 escuelas, incluyendo la mayoría de las escuelas bilingües aquí en San Salvador. Uno de nuestros equipos, compuesto por Fernando Caballero, Adriana Menjivar, Diego Narváez y Jonathan Rodezno, empató con el Colegio Americano de Guatemala y nuestro equipo conformado por Andrés Reis, Luis Núñez, Diego Salguero y Ricardo Vásquez quedó tercero. Nuestro equipo de Marcos Narvaez, Nelson Salinas, Lucas Cornejo y Carlos Arévalo terminaron duodécimo en la general (¡recuerden que había más de 50 equipos!). ¡Estamos muy orgullosos de todos ellos! En la competencia individual Fernando quedó en segundo lugar y Jonathan quedó en cuarto lugar y tuvimos cuatro estudiantes en los primeros 10 lugares. También tuvimos estudiantes participando y haciendo su mejor esfuerzo durante los dos días. Hicieron un excelente trabajo, y queremos darle un agradecimiento especial a Mario Canas, nuestro entrenador y a todo el personal de matemáticas que trabajó con él.

TEDx ABC

In December, some of our Grade 12 students organised a series of talks in a format that has become popular around the globe: TEDx.

TED is a nonpartisan nonprofit devoted to spreading ideas, usually in the form of short, powerful talks.

We had many amazing participants, ranging from bloggers, to educators, engineers and YouTube personalities. However, we would like to say a big congratulations to our 3 ABC students that also did their own talks.

It takes a lot of courage to talk in front of so many people, and you all did a fantastic job, we enjoyed this event immensely!

En diciembre, algunos de nuestros alumnos de 12o grado organizaron una serie de charlas en un formato que se ha vuelto muy popular alrededor del mundo: TEDx.

TED es una organización sin fines de lucro y sin afiliaciones políticas dedicada a diseminar ideas, usualmente por medio de charlas cortas y poderosas.

Tuvimos excelentes participantes, desde bloggers a educadores, ingenieros y personalidades de YouTube. Sin embargo, queremos extender una gran felicitación a nuestros 3 alumnos de la ABC que también impartieron sus propias charlas.

Hablar en frente de tanta gente requiere mucha valentía, y todos hicieron un muy buen trabajo, ¡disfrutamos de este evento inmensamente!
