Lap of Honour 2019

This morning, excitement could be felt all around our Auditorium, as hundreds of our Lap of Honour participants gathered to begin the awards assembly led by Mr. Keslake, Ms. Cáceres, Mr. Bridge and Ms. Cecy Hernandez.

It was fantastic to see so many of our students who participate and excel in sports, arts and academics, from the football and swim teams, to our PAD musicals to Mathcounts, everyone sitting in that Auditorium was a shining example of what it means to be a ROC.

It was quite amazing to see so many of our teams who won first place in the tournaments that they participated in. These included our Varsity football team, Swim team, Archery team, Table Tennis team and Athletics and Basketball Teams.

Belonging to the different clubs and activities the ABC offers is not only a great way to develop a skill, it also provides great lessons in resilience and being a leader and team player. If your child is not part of one of our clubs, we strongly encourage that you motivate them to join one next school year so that we have even more ROCs being recognised next year.

Mathcounts in Mexico/ Mathcounts en México

On the 7th and 8th of March, the ABC participated in Math Relay and Mathcounts (Applied problem solving) events, which took place in Monterrey, Mexico and organised by the Instituto Americano de Monterrey (AIM).
Our participants represented their school and their country with great pride. These seventh and eighth graders displayed a high level of preparation, obtaining first place in the Math Relay portion, with a perfect score and best time out of all the teams, as well as two Mathcounts trophies, with Team A winning second place and Team B winning 3rd place.

The different teams represented various states throughout Mexico and two Central American countries. Even amongst this high level of competition, half of the ABC's delegation obtained a spot in the top 20 spots of the tournament, and ended up being the school with the most representation among the top 20.

The ABC Bulldogs returned home feeling extremely proud and satisfied to have represented their school and country so well.

Operación Pupusa started at the ABC over nine years ago. Every year volunteers gather on the 23rd of December in the ABC Auditorium to build kits which are going to be delivered to those who need it the most. Around 50,000 kits are put together, including shampoo, deodorant, toothpaste, toothbrush, snacks such as cookies and candies, blankets and of course, pupusas. Apparently we delivered over five thousand kits across the country.

The next day the volunteers were divided into groups to go to different local communities. My community was in Nejapa, so on the 24th of December in the early morning I went with my group and our kits to give out. It was an amazing experience to see how happy everyone was to receive their kits. People were so grateful, and it really helped me to reflect on how grateful we should be for all of the things we have and the real meaning of giving and sharing on Christmas. We also had piñatas and games for the kids and by the end everyone had had a great time. Thank you Operation Pupusa for making this possible.
