Asamblea de Independencia de Primaria/ Primary Independence Day Assembly

A yearly tradition, the Primary Independence assembly is a vibrant and joyous celebration of El Salvador's cultural heritage.
As a school that strives to create internationally minded citizens, it is important that our students learn to embrace their own culture so they can appreciate others.
This year's assembly featured typical Salvadorian dances, performances by the Lower and Upper Primary choirs, and even "El Torito Pinto" played on the xylophone and flute!

We would like to thank the Primary Spanish department for working so hard to put together an event in which all our students felt proud to live in a country with such rich heritage.

   

Como es tradición, la Asamblea de Independencia de Primaria es una celebración muy alegre y colorida de toda la herencia cultural de nuestro país.
Somos un colegio en el que estamos formando ciudadanos con conciencia global, por lo que es de suma importancia que nuestros alumnos puedan aprender de su propia cultura para poder apreciar otras diferentes.

La asamblea de este año contó con bailes típicos, participación de los coros de Lower y Upper Primary, ¡y hasta una versión de "El Torito Pinto"en xilófono y flauta!

Deseamos agradecer al departamento de Español de Primaria por su enorme esfuerzo y por haber llevado a cabo un evento en el que todos nuestros alumnos se sintieron muy orgullosos de vivir en un país con tan rica cultura.

It was a difficult and close game for both teams right from the start, the first quarter was slow and was not productive for either team. However, during the second quarter, there was a 180 degree spin, as the ABC defense helped us to a four point advantage.

Nonetheless, Colegio Maya plying well, managed to steal the ball from us on two occasions, catching up and finishing the second quarter ahead of the ABC by two points.

During the third quarter, Colegio Maya moved its players around, managing to stall the Bulldog offensive, who were having a hard time getting to the basket, and when they did, they still found it hard to score.

It was during the final quarter that three recoveries of the ball and two baskets that paved the way to a Bulldog win.

The ABC Bulldogs became 2017 Estudiantil Champions during the final quarter, which was extremely close and during its first three quarters, very difficult to determine who the winner would be.

Desde el principio el juego pinto para ser difícil y parejo, el primer cuarto se caracterizo por poca efectividad por parte de ambos quintetos. Ya para el segundo cuarto la cosa cambio un poco en cuanto a la defensa ABC ya que fue la clave para que nos fuéramos arriba por cuatro punto pero en una racha de dos robos de balón el colegio Maya logra concretar e irse arriba por dos puntos para finalizar el segundo cuarto. En el tercer cuarto el Maya movió sus piezas de manera que lograron parar la ofensiva Bulldogs que no lograba convertir sus intentos al aro, y aunque los tableros ofensivos fueron para la ABC la bola no quería entrar. Fue en el ultimo cuarto donde tres robos de balón y dos canastas de media significaron la ventaja que a la postre dio el gane a la causa Bulldogs.

Fue así como el equipo Bulldogs categoría mini se proclamó Campeón Estudiantil en su versión 2017 ganando la final al Colegio Maya. En un juego muy parejo y difícil que durante los primeros tres períodos no se vislumbraba quien ganaría.

Bienvenida a nuevos alumnos/ New student welcome

Every year, the ABC opens its doors to both local and foreign students into its three sections and this year was no exception.

On Tuesday, these new students were invited to talk with members of the Primary and Secondary teams while enjoying sandwiches and popsicles. The children were able to ask Mr. Keslake, Mrs. Short, Ms. Cáceres and various other members of our staff questions about the school, as well as share how they were settling in and sharing their experiences with each other.

We are very happy we have welcomed them to our school and cannot wait to see how they will enhance our community.

Todos los años, la ABC abre sus puertas a alumnos nuevos, tanto locales como extranjeros, y este año no fue la excepción.

El martes, los nuevos alumnos fueron invitados a charlar con miembros de los equipos de Primaria y Secundaria, mientras disfrutaban de sandwiches y paletas. Los niños tuvieron la oportunidad de hacerle preguntas acerca de nuestro colegio a Mr. Keslake, Mrs. Short, Ms. Cáceres y varios otros miembros del personal. También compartieron como sentían que se estaban adaptando al colegio y relataron sus experiencias.

Estamos muy contentos de tenerlos en la ABC y ansiosos por ver como enriquecerán nuestra comunidad.

Active Planet Entry Point/ Punto de Entrada "Planeta Activo"

Last Friday, Grade 2 had a very exciting entry point for their new IPC unit, entitled Active Planet".
This topic deals with the idea of natural disasters:

"The tectonic plates that form the Earth’s crust are always moving. Even the smallest movement can cause huge earthquakes, volcanoes and tsunamis that devastate communities across wide areas. If we can understand what is happening underground we can learn to predict and protect ourselves in the future".

With this in mind, the Grade 2 teachers transformed their classrooms into places such as Relief and First Aid centres, in which all of the children were able to experience the effects of natural phenomena.

We would like to thank all the Grade 2 staff who put in so much hard work to make this activity a success and an example of what truly active learning means.







El viernes pasado, segundo grado llevó a cabo un punto de entrada muy emocionante para su nueva unidad de IPC, "Planeta Activo".

"Las placas tectónicas que conforman la corteza terrestre siempre están en movimiento. Hasta el movimiento más pequeño puede desatar grandes terremotos, erupciones volcánicas y tsunamis que devastan comunidades a través de muchas zonas. Si logramos comprender lo que ocurre debajo de la tierra, podemos aprender a predecir y protegernos en el futuro."

Con lo anterior en mente, las maestras de segundo grado transformaron sus aulas en lugares como centros de Primeros Auxilios y de Acopio, en los cuales los niños tuvieron la oportunidad de vivir un poco las consecuencias de los fenómenos naturales.
